The Work and Holiday route (ages 18–30)
Hungary and Australia signed a Work and Holiday arrangement in Canberra on 24 February 2016. It lets young Australians live and work in Hungary for up to a year on a temporary residence permit. The OIF's current list of Working Holiday agreements sets Australia's annual quota at 500 permits (Act XCVIII of 2016). The permit can't be extended, so it's best used as a first year to find your footing and, if you want to stay, to line up an employer who can sponsor a longer permit. Working for a Hungarian employer
- Residence permit for employment. The standard route for a job offer. It runs as a single application (residence and work together), is valid for up to 2 years, and can be extended by one more year to a maximum of 3 years from first issue. If you change employer, position or workplace, you apply for a new extension. Visa-free nationals such as Australians can file it inside Hungary.

Working remotely for an Australian employer: the White Card
Hungary's White Card is built for remote workers. You qualify if you work for an employer outside Hungary, or own a profitable company outside Hungary, and earn at least €3,000 net a month — for at least the six months before you arrive and throughout your stay. The card is valid for up to one year and can be extended once, for another year.
