UAE Golden Visa (2026): Every Category, Duration and Requirement, From the Official Portal

By the SettleBuddy editorial teamUpdated 3 November 20268 min read

The Golden visa is the UAE's long-term residence permit: five or ten years, renewable, no employer or sponsor needed, and the right to sponsor your spouse and children. Agencies sell it with a lot of noise. The official UAE government portal, u.ae, publishes the categories and conditions in one table sourced from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). This guide reproduces that table and explains what each line means.

Quick answer

The UAE Golden visa is a long-term, renewable residence visa valid for 5 or 10 years. Holders do not need a sponsor, can stay outside the UAE for longer than the usual six months without losing residence, and can sponsor family members including spouses and children. The categories on u.ae are: investors (10 years for public investments, 5 years for real estate; minimum capital AED 2 million, or property ownership, or a contribution to an establishment paying at least AED 250,000 a year in taxes), entrepreneurs (5 years, with proof of an innovative or technical project and a letter from an incubator or the relevant emirate authority), exceptional talents and rare specialisations (10 years: doctors, scientists, inventors, creatives, executives, athletes, PhD holders and specialists in priority scientific and engineering fields), outstanding students (5 years for high-school achievers, 10 years for top university students) and humanitarian pioneers and frontline heroes (10 years, with certificates of appreciation, humanitarian documentation or at least 5 years of service).

The four benefits that matter

Investors: what "AED 2 million" attaches to

The u.ae table gives one capital figure, AED 2 million, and two alternative evidences: property ownership, or a contribution to an establishment that pays at least AED 250,000 a year in taxes. Public investments earn the 10-year visa; real-estate investments the 5-year one. The emirate's own land department or the ICP checker will tell you which valuation documents it accepts; the federal portal does not list them.

Talent categories

The 10-year talent visa is the widest category and the least mechanical. The portal lists doctors, scientists, inventors, creatives in culture and arts, executives, athletes, PhD holders and specialists in priority scientific and engineering fields, and says each subcategory has its own requirements, such as recommendation letters, practical experience or accredited degrees. Creatives apply for a recommendation through the Ministry of Culture; the other subcategories are documented through ICP and the emirate authorities.

Students and graduates

High-school achievers can get 5 years; top university students 10 years. Both need certificates of excellence and recommendation letters from the school or university.

Where to apply

Reading agency offers

If an offer names a category, a duration or a capital figure that is not in the u.ae table above, ask for the ICP or GDRFA page it comes from. The federal portal is the reference the authorities themselves link to.
