India Visa Fees 2026: e-Visa and Paper Visa Costs

By the SettleBuddy editorial teamUpdated 13 October 20267 min read

What you pay for an Indian visa depends on three things: your nationality, the type of visa and how long it runs. India publishes two sets of prices. The e-Visa has a country-by-country fee table on the government portal. The regular visa, the paper visa issued by an Indian Mission, is priced by each Mission. This guide sets out both, using the e-Tourist fee table dated 8 September 2026, the e-Business and e-Medical table dated 15 April 2026 and the fee schedule of the Embassy of India in Washington, all read on 13 October 2026.

Quick answer

For most listed countries, an e-Tourist visa costs US$10 for 30 days in April to June, US$25 for 30 days in July to March, US$40 for one year and US$200 for five years. The five-year fee is 160 for the United States and 484 for the United Kingdom. A bank charge of 3% is added. For a paper visa, US nationals pay US$160 for a tourist or business visa of up to 10 years, US$100 for a student visa and US$140 to US$320 for an employment visa. e-Visa fees are non-refundable.

e-Tourist visa fees by country

The portal's table is titled "Country/Territory Wise e-Tourist Visa Fee (in US $)". It has four columns. For most listed countries the 30-day visa is priced lower in April to June than in July to March.

Paper visa fees: the Washington example

For a regular visa, the visa portal says the fee depends on the type of visa and its duration, and is made up of a basic fee, a special fee and a processing fee charged by the outsourcing agency. The figure shown at the end of online registration is indicative only. The final fee is charged when you submit the application.

Each Mission publishes its own schedule. The Embassy of India in Washington lists these fees for nationals of the USA:

Who pays nothing for a visa

Nationals of Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United Arab Emirates can use Visa-on-Arrival for visits not exceeding 60 days for business, tourism, conference and medical purposes. For UAE nationals it is available only to those who earlier obtained an e-Visa or a regular paper visa for India.

The OCI card fee, for people of Indian origin

The Bureau of Immigration's FAQ on the Overseas Citizen of India card describes the fee through its refund rule: if registration is not granted, an amount of USD 250 or its equivalent in local currency is refunded, while the processing fee of USD 25, or Rs. 1400 in India, is non-refundable.

How to pay the right amount

  1. Check whether you need a visa at all, using the visa-free and Visa-on-Arrival lists above.
  2. Check whether your purpose fits an e-Visa. The e-Visa categories are tourist, business, medical, medical attendant, student, transit, film, miscellaneous, entry, production investment and family.
  3. Look up your country in the portal's fee table and add the 3% bank charge.
  4. For a paper visa, open the fee schedule of the Indian Mission where you will apply and add the welfare fund and service charges.
  5. Pay only on the official portal or at the Mission's appointed provider.
